Music Rotation — 12 Mar

Posted in music at 12:38 pm by berzerkeleyan

For the week:

Eels “Beautiful Freak” (1996)
Zwan “Mary Star Of The Sea” (2003)
Lloyd Cole & The Commotions “Rattlesnakes” (1984)
The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” (1966)
Stereophonics “Just Enough Education To Perform” (2001)
Serena-Maneesh “Serena-Maneesh” (2006) — the shoegazer movement is alive and well in Norway. Serena Maneesh have clearly tried to emulate the sound that made My Bloody Valentine so magical. Nicely done. This will likely be in heavy rotation soon.
The Veils “The Runaway Found” (2004)
Joan As Police Woman “Real Life” (2006) — this was a blind purchase, after reading a very positive review in Uncut. The first time I put it on, it felt like sitting on a new leather chair. At first, it’s a little stiff. But over time it wraps around you and gets warm and cozy. By the time the last song ended, I didn’t want the album to stop. For those who like modern Torch Song artists like Rufus Wainwright or Antony and the Johnsons, you can’t go wrong here.
