For the week:

Mansun “Kleptomania” (2004)genre: Britpop.
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals “Cardinology” (2008)genre:
Fleet Foxes “Fleet Foxes” (2008)genre: Americana.
The Feeling “Twelve Stops and Home” (2007)genre: Emoschlock.
Snow Patrol “A Hundred Million Suns” (2008)genre: Emoschlock.
Brian Wilson “Smile” (2004)genre: California Pop.
Mansun “Little Kix” (2000)genre: Britpop.
Snow Patrol “Eyes Open” (2006)genre: Emoschlock.
Glasvegas “Glasvegas” (2008)genre: Emoschlock. To me, they sound like a cross between Post Punk and 50’s Doo-Wop. So far, I’ve only listened to the album once. It may turn out to not have much staying power. But I liked what I heard the first go ’round.
Friendly Fires “Friendly Fires” (2008)genre: Techno Geek.
Chicago “If You Leave Me Now” (1982)genre: Pop.
Devics “The Stars at Saint Andrea” (2003)genre: Folk.

This week:

Pink Floyd “Animals” (1977)genre: Progressive Rock.
Band Of Horses “Cease To Begin” (2007)genre: American Indie Rock.
Elbow “The Seldom Seen Kid” (2008)genre: Emoschlock. This album has really jumped in sales since the commercials for the video game “Left 4 Dead” debuted. I wonder what your average FPS gamer thinks of the quieter moments on this album.
Yeasayer “All Hour Cymbals” (2007)genre: Indie World.
The Last Shadow Puppets “The Age Of The Understatement” (2008)genre: Modern Lounge.
Brian Wilson “Smile” (2004)genre: California Pop.
Joan As Police Woman “To Survive” (2008)genre: Modern Torch Song.
Sara Lov “Three Songs” (2007)genre: Folk.
Josh Rouse “Country Mouse, City House” (2007)genre: Easy Lis’nin’. Strange…I like this album. But after hearing it, I can’t remember what I just heard. It is completely forgettable. I’m guessing that’s not a good sign for this album’s longevity.
Donald Fagen “The Nightfly” (1983)genre: Progressive Pop Jazz.
Mansun “Six” (1998)genre: Britpop.
New Radicals “Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too” (1998)genre: American Britpop.

Snow Patrol “A Hundred Million Suns” (2008)genre: Emoschlock.
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals “Cardinology” (2008)genre: This is Ryan’s eleventh album since starting his solo career in 2000. Incredible, considering none of his albums are duds. That includes this one. It’s not his best. In fact, it’s rather formulaic compared to his others. But that only means it’s great rather than groundbreaking.
Queen “Queen” (1973)genre: Glam Rock.
Kaiser Chiefs “Off With Their Heads” (2008)genre: Britpop.
Mindy Smith “One Moment More” (2004)genre: Country.
Dustin O’Halloran “Piano Solos” (2004)genre: Post-Modern Classical.
Travis “Ode to J. Smith” (2008)genre: Emoschlock. Meh. Their last two albums…tepid, at best. They just don’t do it for me anymore. Not recommended at all, even for their most ardent fans.
Starsailor “On the Outside” (2006)genre: Britpop.
Devics “My Beautiful Sinking Ship” (2001)genre: Mouse Folk.

For the week:

Queensrÿche “Operation: Mindcrime II” (2006)genre: Metal.
Josh Rouse “Country Mouse, City House” (2007)genre: Easy Lis’nin’.
Anika Moa “In Swings The Tide” (2007)genre: Pop.
Liam Finn “I’ll Be Lightning” (2007)genre: Indie Pop. I saw Liam Finn live a few weeks ago and was not impressed; two-piece outfits never produce enough texture live. Despite the experience, I went with a friend’s recommendation and gave this a listen. Really, really good album. He’s definitely inherited his father’s voice and ear for melody.
The Black Keys “Attack & Release” (2008)genre: Southern Indie Rock.
Brian Wilson “Smile” (2004)genre: Pop.
The Veils “The Runaway Found” (2004)genre: Emoschlock. It looks like they’ve reissued this album. This is great news for those of you who missed it the first go around.
Gene “Revelations” (1999)genre: Britpop.
Queensrÿche “Operation: Mindcrime” (1988)genre: Metal.
Serena-Maneesh “S-M Backwards” (2008)genre: Shoegazer.
Snow Patrol “A Hundred Million Suns” (2008)genre: Emoschlock. $4 digital download at Amazon! I’ve only given this one listen. But this has the potential to be SP’s best album yet. With Coldplay’s recent stumble, this might catapult SP past them as World’s Most Dominant Band. And though it wouldn’t be undeserved, it worries me. Holding that title tends to negatively affect most bands.
The Verve “Forth” (2008)genre: Britpop.
